Jones Making a Comeback

Simon Gagne was placed on long-term injury today which means he will be out for at least 10 games and with that Randy Jones is moved back up to the Flyers if he clears re-entry waivers. This is a concern because Ryan Parent’s injury must be a bit more serious and it seems Holmgren expects to see him sitting out more time as well. Hopefully Jones takes this opportunity and runs with it but I never liked Jones too much so my confidence in him is waning.

My guess is Jones will be paired with Tollefsen and Syvret will move back down, but it all depends on their decision; keeping in mind that Tollefsen is injury-prone.

UPDATED: Jones on the Move? among other sources have been circulating rumors that Randy Jones is going to be waived tomorrow. There are several sources reporting with this insider news. We’ll have more as it becomes available. It makes sense and we’ve been pondering this move with the rest of the media since the summer. With Ole-Kristian Tollefsen providing a cheaper duty on the 3rd pair and Danny Syvret shaping up nicely on the Phantoms, this is a drop to keep JVR and/or Pyorala on the team or in the system. I expect to hear more tomorrow.

CSN Philly’s Tim Panaccio has reported that Randy was placed on waivers this morning. He reports that the Rangers have interest but cannot commit due to possible cap issues. Signing Blair Betts, JVR, and Pyorala would take a lot of cap room and would much easier without Jones’ overpaid $2.75 million cap hit. If he clears, Jones will be back where he started on the Phantoms. More to come.

Gagne Slated to Return for Camp; Should he?

Good news for Flyers fans: the groin strain that Gagne suffered will not keep him out of the lineup for an extended period of time.

Flyers general manager Paul Holmgren said Wednesday that Gagne received an injection and can return to the ice in two weeks, in time for the start of training camp on Sept. 12.

The bad news is Gagne’s groin is reminiscent of Forsberg’s ankle.

Flyers Trade/Signing Rumors reports in their Monday rumors with a little tidbit about the Flyers:

The Flyers are looking to free some cap space for a relatively minor signing and may have a deal to send a player to Phoenix or LA on the table.

Who could this possibly be? We can look at the scenarios in Jeff’s previous post and see that guys like Randy Jones, Matt Carle, Riley Cote, Andreas Nodl, and the likes can be moved to relieve the cap hit.
