Flyers Trade OKT and 2011 5th Rounder for Ville Leino

The Flyers and Red Wings have inked a deal this morning to move one of this year’s new Flyers, Ole-Kristian Tollefsen, to Detroit along with a 5th round pick in the 2011 NHL Entry Draft for forward Ville Leino. This move was probably in conjunction with getting rid of Tollefsen who became dead weight after we signed Krajicek. The question is, where will Leino play? I see him playing for Adirondack and maybe getting a shot sometime down the road. This was more of a depth move for forward since we have a good amount at defense once Parent and Syvret get healthy.

Don’t know too much about this Leino fellow but hopefully he pans out somehow.

Leighton Starting at the Garden Tonight; Olympian Flyers

Michael Leighton will be starting tonight in Madison Square Garden in what will be the Flyers last game of 2009 before the Winter Classic at Fenway on Friday. Laviolette still has not decided on who will start in Boston according to Flyers OnTheFly. Flyers look to go for four-straight tonight to carry momentum in what will be an exciting outdoor match-up on Friday. Wish I could have gotten tickets.

They also reported that Oscars Bartulis has been selected to the Latvian Olympic hockey team as well as Ole-Kristian Tollefsen for Norway. Pronger and Richie have both made Team Canada with Prongs getting the ‘A’ along with Crosby as Niedermayer will be wearing the ‘C’. Carter is apparently an alternate and will play if anyone goes down.

The Flyers Season So Far…

With a extremely busy weekend for myself combined with the lack of internet during a good portion of it, I’m back with a few quick tidbits for a weekend recap:

-Flyers won their 3rd straight with a convincing win on Friday night where they got to Buffalo’s hot goaltender Ryan Miller.
-Flyers won their 4th straight in a shootout win on Saturday night hosting the St. Louis Blues. Claude Giroux’s move was dazzling, and Pyorala scored the winner in the 4th round.
-Tollefsen suffered a mild concussion on Saturday night and Van Riemsdyk fractured the tip of his left pinkie finger. Van Riemsdyk should be back soon, but probably not going to make their next game at home against Ottawa on Thursday. Tollefsen most likely will not play, and if Ryan Parent cannot as well, expect Bartulis or possibly Bourdon to come up from the Phantoms.

Another 6 Goal Performance

The Flyers have been put in the back seat for the most part in the Philly sports area. The Phillies are fighting for their lives to claw their way back to a World Series title, and the Eagles have hit the halfway point of their season and just reached first place after beating the Giants this past Sunday. However, it may be a good thing considering they lost two of their top forwards and were not playing well the past few weeks. Last night’s 6-2 routing of the Tampa Bay Lightning is their second straight 6-goal performance by the orange and black leading to a very decisive win.

The Magician Giroux Lifts Flyers Back to Winning Ways in Shootout

The Flyers won in a shootout. The Flyers won in a shootout. Just say that to yourself. Feels good, doesn’t it?

The Bruins came into last night’s game with their fair share of injuries and opting to let Tim Thomas get a rest since he played the night before in the win over Nashville. They were a team coming off a big win to visit a team that hasn’t played in pretty much a whole week. Ole-Kristian Tollefsen and Danny Syvret started simultaneously for the first time as Ryan Parent is still nursing an injury and Emery was still starting. How’d the Flyers fare?
