With the news on the Flyers site that Gagne has returned to the Skate Zone and begun skating for the first time since his injury comes another interesting pre-training camp quip. Seven year NHL veteran of the Calgary Flames and New York Rangers Blair Betts was added to the training camp roster on a pro try-out basis.
Betts only has 48 points in his 7 seasons in the NHL, but if he can impress the staff enough, we could definitely use him on the 3rd or 4th line to play center and win face-offs for us and get some energy going. Although his numbers aren’t that good, he did lead the Rangers in face-off percentage and penalty kill time a few seasons ago. This would be especially useful if we could sign him cheap, which I have no doubt in my mind we could considering he has not gotten other offers and is still unsigned.
More to come on this as camp gets closer. Is it hockey season yet?
