Sykora Window Dwindling

31 Aug

Two seperate reports on Sykora may lead to an end of the Flyers pursuing him.

With Tanguay already signed by the Lightning, the Wild are now focusing their efforts on other players, including Sykora.

Sykora has also spoken to the Ottawa Senators and New York Islanders, but the Wild offers more of an opportunity to play on one of the club’s top-two lines.

Also in the Sykora sweepstakes are the Senators, but only if they can find a solution to the Dany Heatly issue.

Bruce Garrioch reports the Senators are not only holding talks with UFA forward Mike Comrie but also with former Pittsburgh Penguins winger Petr Sykora. The Flyers and Wild are also believed seeking help at forward. Signing either player however could depend on moving Dany Heatley to free up the necessary cap space.

If Sykora is looking for top two line time then the Flyers better give up on pursuing him.  Or sign him and trade Gagne.  Either one.

The Flyers took on their 50th pro contract with the signing of Jared Ross last week. 50 is the max a team can carry.

The only way the Flyers could add Sykora is if another player departed via trade, and it doesn’t make sense that the Flyers would shift their roster around to fit in a guy who sat for much of the playoffs last year.

The Flyers have an extra defenseman they can stand to move with no real damage (Randy Jones).

It’s a possibility, but it’s looking more and more that the Flyers are out of the Sykora running.
