Goalie Prospect, Danny Syvret Signed and More; Emery’s New Mask

11 Aug

CSN Philly’s Tim Panaccio reports that the Flyers organization signed 4 more contracts today. One being 20-year old goaltender prospect Nicola Riopel who was a 5th round pick in this years NHL draft. It is an entry-level contract which means he will most likely backing up Swedish goaltending prospect Johan Backlund on the Phantoms. Danny Syvret was also re-signed today with a one-year, two-way deal. I personally hope to see him get a few call-ups this year and see how he does. Center Zac Rinaldo was given a three year entry-level contract and other defenseman David Sloane was also given a one year contract.

These signings will have little to no impact this season on the Flyers, but it shows that Holmgren is doing a good job to piece our future together as well. Backlund has had nothing but good things said about him since he was drafted by the Flyers playing in other leagues, and hopefully he does a good job for the Phantoms. Danny Syvret’s signing is great news considering he was one of the best Phantoms defenseman last year. Hopefully we see more of him in the near future.

Panaccio also reports that Emery has gotten his new Flyers goalie helmet and he’s stuck to his usual formula of boxers. However, this one has a Philly twist as Joe Frazier, Bernard Hopkins and the underdog himself, Rocky Balboa are all feature on his helmet.
